Publisher's Game Description: Do you like Jurassic Park or Walking With Dinosaurs? Then you'll love Jurassic Wars® - the award-winning dinosaur combat game from Dice Maestro. Jurassic Wars features 20 different dinosaurs: ten herbivores on green Dinocards and ten carnivores coloured red. During combat herbivores use green dice and carnivores use red. A red die is more likely to score a hit against an opponent than a green die.
_Awards! - Jurassic Wars won Game Of The Year 2009 in the annual Toy Talk Awards (Board Game Category).
The simple, probability-based game mechanism is flexible allowing for basic game parameters to be changed and also lending itself to many different variations, such as Jurassic Wars Whist, a points scoring game that involves greater skill and judgement, and Jurassic Wars Casino, a Craps-style gambling game. Details are available from the publisher’s website. Expansion sets are in development.
Jurassic Wars is the second game from Dice Maestro, which not only refuses on ethical grounds to outsource manufacture of any components to low-wage economies (everything is made in the UK) but also gives 5% of profits to a worthy cause. Since dinosaurs fascinate all children, the selected charities for Jurassic Wars are children's charities.
Jurassic Wars is a dice-based game and so luck is a major element in determining the winner but it is mistaken to believe that judgement has no role to play. Just as Butler observed that "Probability is the very guide to life" - probability is also the very guide to Jurassic Wars. Even though a game can be won without understanding the underlying probability at all, games will not be consistently won against players who do. How To Play: Each player is dealt a hand of dinocards and some combat cards. During the game players must carefully play dinocards from their hand and must judge when to play a combat card, which can alter the outcome of the combat. Play consists of combats between pairs of players. During combat players take the appropriate combat dice for their dinosaur, which vary according to a few conditions, and start rolling. The aim is to score hits against the opposing dinosaur. Jurassic Wars uses a unique game mechanism where the combat dice also serve as the number of hit points that each dinosaur can sustain in combat. After a series of rolls between the two players one will be left with no dice to throw and his or her dinosaur has been defeated and is removed from play. With every combat another dinosaur is taken out of the game. As the game progresses some players will lose all their dinocards and be eliminated until one player is left standing and is the winner.

BGG Robert McCann:"I recently purchased Jurassic Wars and the game gets full marks from my three kids (ages: 8-17) and myself! Just great fun and fantastic artwork - the best I've come across in a dinosaur game. Can't wait for the expansion packs!"
BGG Marino Festuccia:"Great game! I love it and I'm waiting for expansions! ;-) Easy to play, and playable everywhere! With dinos *_*"
BGG Fred Heis:"Good fun - has been described as Top Trumps with Dinosaurs and dice. That's not necessarily a bad thing, so nice change down a gear filler. Company very ethical and proud to support them. Look forward to expansions with new funky dinosaurs."
BGG David Kitcat:" We haven't used the Battle Cards or the Timeline yet, but it's perfectly enjoyable as is with the children (at 6 & 4). The herbivorous Sauropelta has been the last beast standing twice now. "
The publisher of Jurassic Wars - Dice Maestro Limited - has compiled a document of rule variations and game versions - essentially, different ways and games you can use this game set to play. This would greatly enhance the mileage of your game, and you would most likely be able to find your favourite game variation or version amongst them, instead of just sticking to the original rules. Different game versions include a 2 player version called Carnivores Unleashed, Jurassic Wars Poker - a 'gambling version', and three others.
