Publisher's Game Description:
Every picture tells a story – but what story will your picture tell?
Dixit is the lovingly illustrated game of creative guesswork, where your imagination unlocks the tale. In this award-winning board game, players will use the beautiful imagery on their cards to bluff their opponents and guess which image matches the story. Guessing right is only half the battle – to really succeed, you’ll have to get your friends to decide that your card tells the story!
_How To Play: One player is the storyteller for the turn. He looks at the 6 images in his hand. From one of these, he makes up a sentence and says it out loud (without showing the card to the other players).
The other players select amongst their 6 images the one that best matches the sentence made up by the storyteller.
Then, each of them gives their selected card to the storyteller, without showing it to the others. The storyteller shuffles his card with all the received cards. All pictures are shown face up, randomly, and every player has to bet upon what picture was the storyteller's.
If nobody or everybody finds the correct picture, the storyteller scores 0, and each of the other players scores 2. Otherwise the storyteller and whoever found the correct answer scores 3. Players score 1 point for every vote gotten by their own picture.
The game ends when the deck is empty or if someone reaches 30 points,so he wins. Otherwise, person with the greatest total wins the game.
Paulette Stewart of Plus Street Samplers:"Anyway, I gave in to his persuasion, and was introduced to a game I actually liked. It's called Dixit. The game includes the most interesting cards I've ever seen, each one a fragment of different works of art looking like they came from a beautifully-illustrated children's book... At long last, I have a game I could recommend to families." Read the entire(ly hilarious) review here.
BGG Scott (Checkallday):"Simply beautiful, economically gorgeous. No fat, not waste, pure elegance. Encourages the sort of deep-thought that you can't find in other games and a party game to boot. I love, love this game. Storytelling with some analysis in figuring out who might have played what: ask why and what they were thinking and it adds to the fun. Great with family and non-gamers. Careful now, don't say too much, but neither too little, strike that balance. Fun and thoughtful in equal measure, newbie-friendly. Perfect, fantastic. I can't say enough good about it; thinky-creative types will love it. Superfantastic! "
BGG Dan Scott:"I've introduced this game to many people and I find it's been a real hit with non-gamers. I wouldn't classify it as a gateway game, because there is no game like it and there is no 'next step'. It's just a fantastic 'party' game. I'll always enjoy playing Dixit, and I always recommend that if you're going to buy this, you also buy Dixit 2, at least. (If you like it, Dixit: Odyssey will likely follow!)"
BGG Mark Hall:"With doubt my favourite party game, everyone who I play it with always asks me about it at a later date saying they've been thinking about it since and when can we play it again? A great interactive fun game with excellent expansions and replayability"
BGG Zee Garcia:"A beautiful game that reminds of the mystery and innocence of childhood. It is one of the most surreal and ethereal games I've ever played, yet can also be funny and easy to teach."
BGG Cyrus Kirby (fathergeek):"Dixit is one of those rare games that can be played with a mixed age and skill group with little to no difficulty. It is because of this that this game is a big hit in my family. Whenever we have guests over with kids (or even without kids), Dixit makes it to the table. This is also a great game for the non-gamers in your life. The rules are not complex, there isn’t a high level of difficulty, and all that anyone really needs to play is good listening skills and an imagination." Read the entire review here.
BGG Borislock:"Currently my favorite social/party game. Unlike many games in the genre, Dixit encourages creativity, imagination, and just the teensiest bit of strategy. Great for family gatherings, teachers, and your hard core Euro gaming group. "
BGG Jessey:"A simply amazing game. So much potential and fun in such an incredibly deceptive package. The art is amazing, and the game plays great - it's a fun exciting experience for everyone!"
BGG Chris Schreiber:"Close to a perfect light party style game. The perfect gift to give non-gamers. People will be playing this in 15 years. (And there will be so much art for it by then!!!)"
BGG O Lum jolie8:"Simply a lovely game. Uber creative and uber fun! It's been played by 7 to 70 year olds and everyone gets it instantly and wants to play it again."
